Casper is ~6 years old, neutered male, crate trained and potty trained. If you take away one thing from Casper, it’s that he LOVES his humans. All he really wants is to be around his favorite people, ideally snuggling up under a blanket, but being in the same room will do! Casper is super go with the flow - he’s happy to provide playful energy or snuggle on the couch. We love to go on picnics and long walks with Casper! In his previous foster homes, he even went on morning runs and miles long adventures. Below are some fun facts and highlights about Casper to help you get to know him better!
Personality and Energy Level
Casper’s personality is full of life! He may be 6, but he has plenty of energy for fun! He’s known for spinning in circles when he gets excited. His playful nature is balanced by his love for relaxation. When he’s done with his zoomies, he’ll politely ask to snuggle on the couch, wrapping himself in blankets like a doggie burrito.
Energy level: Moderate - loves to go on long walks but quickly settles in for an afternoon nap.
Favorite activities: Long relaxed walks to sniff around, playing tug, and most of all cuddling with his favorite human under a blanket on the couch.
Social Skills with People, Dogs, and Other Animals
Casper is incredibly social and thrives around people. He’s also quick to bond with people and shows his affection by leaning in for snuggles and wagging his tail. We never worry about having guests over, he greets everyone like his long-lost BFF! While he may pull or get excited when seeing dogs and bikes on walks, his last foster noted he was friendly off-leash and loves making new dog friends.
Casper showed curiosity towards a cat during a two week stay at a temporary foster home, but they did not officially meet as the cat in question does not like dogs! Casper currently lives with two guinea pigs and loves to sniff them through the cage. I’ve taken them out together, supervised, and Casper really just wanted to sniff and cuddle them.
Training and Behavior
Casper is house trained and crate trained. Casper is always eager to learn especially when there’s treats involved. Casper came to us not potty trained and only knowing the commands “sit” and “go to bed,” but in the past 7 months, he is fully house trained, and crate trained. Casper knows the commands:
Sit, stay, come, down, up, “go to bed” to go into his crate, “leave it,” "wait", the marker word “yes” and the release words “okay” and “let’s go." Casper patiently waits at the door when we’re going for a walk until I give the “let’s go!” command.
Though he might pull a bit on the leash or lunge when he sees exciting things on walks, he’s friendly and very manageable with some positive reinforcement. 90% of the time Casper does NOT pull on the leash, but he does react if he sees another dog. We believe it’s an excited reaction/barrier frustration as off leash he enjoys other dogs. We’re working on this every day and his tolerable distance is getting smaller and smaller. Once Casper has reacted on a walk, he tends to pull towards people or animals as he’s already over stimulated.
Ideal Forever Family
Casper would thrive in a home that can give him the attention and love he needs. Casper doesn’t have any separation anxiety, but he really loves his people! While we have left him alone, crated, for up to 8 hours and he was totally fine, his ideal time alone would be 5 hours or less. He’s very easy going and is happy to sleep in so we don’t have a firm morning walk time!
His ideal schedule would include 3-4 walks or potty breaks per day and lots of snuggling and napping with his people. We did take him to a family member's home and while he enjoyed the yard, he really just wanted to chill! His ideal adopter would continue to work on his leash skills. Once Casper trusts you, he is the most loyal and willing to learn boy ever!
I’d recommend a family with older children only. Casper can get mouthy during play time - he does not bite down but enjoys a hand in his mouth. When ultra excited he can jump on people - really just during zoomies, he’s very polite when greeting new people at the door.
